Purpose
It seems that the photography done by Martin uses published books and the internet. It may also have been published on magazines to promote the thrill of being near a sporting event. It also seems to function to create an identity for the subject being photographed. It creates a moment for people who see the photograph and the possibly a moment for  the subject being photographed. It creates a memorable moment of the time the athlete has achieved what they were aiming for.

Image Analysis
The composition consists of having a subject to be the main focus of the photograph as show in the the two photographs on the sides. Both of these pictures have a focal point that a person would almost every time, notice first (i.e. High jump person and the horse rider). The lighting differs from each photo as shown by the two photos again; the first photo has a darker lighting tone due to the time and the second photo being more brighter because it was taken in the morning.

The photo (The first photo seen) denotes the subject jumping over the bar in a high jump event. The high jumper is the focal point of the photograph and seems to be the only person on the photo, which easily directs the attention of people. Low angle shot, which denotes height and it, simulates the feeling of reaching far heights. The composition consists of having the subject mostly in the middle and the environment around the subject. The meaning that is connoted through this picture could possibly about reaching new heights and being able to succeed. The moment the photograph was taken, the subject seemingly is in a pose, which looks like the subject is celebrating successfully jumping over the bar. The photo seems to be using a fast shutter speed (Most likely higher than or equal to 1/250th of a second). The subject, who in this case is the jumper, is on a focal point, which means it is one of the main points our eyes will be drawn to. It also uses a deep depth of field because it shows the entirety of foreground and background. A rather high ISO would have been used (Above 1600-3200) to detect the light as much as it could because of the original lighting being dark and no external light has been used. The frame that was used to keep the subject the main focus may have been the high jump bar and the other Olympic equipment in the background. Since they are quite dark, they appear to be a single entity and create a frame for the photo. It uses a wide shot to capture a wider sense of the surrounding. This links to the fact that a horizontal orientation was used to further connote that feeling of a long term goal that takes time and training to achieve.

Meaning
The way that these photographs have been done to create meaning for example is the first photograph: the time it was shot at was in the afternoon hence the dark lighting and it connotes the meaning of time in which if one spends enough time doing something, they will eventually become successful. The subject in the photo has clearly jumped well over the bar and has reached the other side and the pose the subject takes seems like a well timed shot because it appears as if the subject is celebrating in that they have successfully cleared their goal in something.
